Final Week for Public to Respond to Dogger Bank D Offshore Wind Farm Consultation.
- Dogger Bank D statutory consultation phase launched on 10 June to give communities and other stakeholders a chance to have their say on project proposal.
- The project team encourages all feedback during the eight-week consultation phase. Feedback will be accepted until 11.59pm on Tuesday 5 August.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate in a formal consultation on proposed plans for a new offshore wind farm project in the North Sea.
Developers SSE Renewables and Equinor launched the statutory consultation on 10 June and have since hosted a series of online and in-person events to present their proposals and gather public feedback on plans for a new phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, located over 210 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast.
Sophie Large, Senior Project Manager for Dogger Bank D, said:
"We encourage anyone who wants to share their views on our proposals to get in touch before the consultation closes.
“It’s important to us that local communities share their deep knowledge of the region and continue to review, and be informed about, our proposals.
“Once the consultation closes on Tuesday 5 August, we’ll examine all feedback and use it to shape our application to the UK Government for a Development Consent Order to build an offshore windfarm to generate up to 1.5GW of renewable energy, to support the transition to secure, homegrown electricity for UK consumers.”
The Dogger Bank D proposals include plans for offshore infrastructure for renewable electricity generation as well as offshore and onshore infrastructure for transmission of the electricity generated by the wind farm.
Out at sea, the project proposes an offshore wind farm array covering a site of 262km2 with up to 113 offshore wind turbines. Each turbine would be installed on a fixed bottom foundation.
The offshore application also proposes up to two offshore platforms, as well as associated export and inter-array subsea cabling that would export power from the offshore wind farm to Britain’s national grid at a landfall point near Skipsea, in East Riding of Yorkshire.
From the Skipsea landfall, underground cables would transmit renewable power along a 55-kilometre route to an onshore converter station and then connect to Britain’s national grid at a new onshore substation being developed by National Grid Electricity Transmission near Cottingham, north of Hull, called Birkhill Wood.
The project is also proposing potential plans to co-locate Energy Storage and Balancing Infrastructure at the site of the proposed onshore converter station.
The proposals follow extensive environmental studies and feedback received from earlier stages of engagement. To support this stage of consultation, a Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR) has been published. The PEIR presents the initial findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment and is intended to help consultees understand the potential environmental effects of the project and provide informed feedback to the consultation.
The delivery of the Dogger Bank D project is subject to securing a Development Consent Order, as well as a final investment decision by project partners SSE Renewables and Equinor.
All consultation materials including the consultation brochure, PEIR documents, maps and feedback form are available to view and download at www.doggerbankd.com. Consultation materials can also be viewed or collected from local community access points. Hard copies and alternative formats of consultation documents can also be requested directly from the project team by email or freephone.
